Give tires a deep, black, finish
that will last for weeks!
If you've wandered through the car care department in your local auto parts store recently, you've no doubt discovered a whole new category of tire dressings called "gels". These are thicker liquids, applied with a foam or sponge applicator. They promise to cling to the tire longer, reduce "sling-off" and resist detergent washings. In a nutshell, the shine is supposed to last for weeks and through multiple car washings.
We purchased several of these tire gels and tested them. Some were pretty good, although we couldn't say the shine lasted for two weeks and some were no better than conventional sprays. Some manufacturers created entirely new formulas while others appeared to take their stock dressing and just add a thickening agent!
While we were under whelmed by the products we tested, the concept of a gel that lasted longer and resisted detergents and sling-off captured our imagination. We had a lab full of new polymer samples from our German supplier and looked at the problem with a clean sheet of paper.
Black Sapphire Super Tire Gel is the result of our research. We call it a super gel because it's different from other tire gels being constructed entirely from a new group of German Super Polymers. First, it contains no butyl of any kind, no alcohols and no petroleum distillates. It will not eat up foam applicators. In fact, Black Sapphire Super Gel is so safe it boasts no significant skin, inhalation or ingestion hazard. We don't recommend drinking it but it's the safest tire dressing in the industry. You can even pour it in your garden! It will not affect soil or any organisms. It has no environmental impact!
We found the best way to apply Black Sapphire Super Gel is to squeeze a thin line down the center of a Flexible Foam Tire Applicator (not included). Wipe the applicator over clean, dry tires adding small amounts of product as needed. Don't add too much. Just enough to keep the foam moist. When you're finished, put the applicator in a zip-lock plastic bag.
We estimate it would take 2 gallons of conventional spray tire dressings to equal one 32 oz. bottle of Black Sapphire Super Gel!
The amount of tire shine is a point of personal preference. We made the formula a semi-gloss by design. It's not as "glassy" as some products but I feel it's a well-dressed look that compliments most vehicles. If you prefer more gloss, wait ten minutes and apply a second coat. If you prefer a more satin finish, wipe the tire immediately after application with a clean cloth.
Durability will vary but our tests are yielding good-looking, black tires for two to three weeks, through two car washings with a car wash soap (not a tire cleaner which is designed to remove dressings).
