These pads are invaluable for anyone working with wood, metal, gel coat, tile or composite surfaces. This is the original 3M synthetic scouring pad. Chances are you have a smaller version of this material in your kitchen for scouring pots and pans.

3M Scotch-Brite Pads outperform steel wool, metal sponges, wire brushes and other non-woven materials. They clean, debur and smooth finishes without leaving metal slivers on your hand or on the surface being cleaned. They can be used with soap and water, almost any solvent, cut to the desired size, washed and re-used as often as needed.

This package contains one, General Purpose, maroon, 6x9x1/4 inch Hand Pad and one, Ultra-fine, gray, 6x9x1/4 inch Hand Pad. The General Purpose Pad is equivalent to a 0 or 00 steel wool. It will leave a low, satin sheen. The Ultra-fine Pad is equivalent to a 4/0 steel wool for polishing to a higher sheen.

If I'm working on large surfaces (boat hull), I'll typically cut the pads in half. For working on my car or bike, I will cut them into 3x6 inch pieces. Another trick I've learned is to cut the pad into a 5 or 6 inch circle and use them with a Hook and Loop Backing Pad on my Porter Cable 7424 Polisher. The pad isn't loop backed but there's enough grip to keep it on the backing plate. If you're working on a moderately rusted. large metal surface, spray a mist of WD-40 on the metal and go at it with the medium pad. Follow with the Ultra-fine pad and wipe with a mineral spirit or alcohol. I've used the same trick with my machine polisher and a gel coat compound to remove severe transom exhaust stains on a boat.

On your car, these pads are great for cleaning raised white letters and whitewalls and for removing exhaust tip stains. On your bike, use a small pad to clean the brake discs and to remove bug splatter on the forks. If you own a boat, you can use these pads on gel coat surfaces, teak and brightwork. Around the home, I use these pads to keep my power tools and garden tools clean and rust free.

Note: Not recommended for use on painted or clear coated finishes.
